Updates:
- Nolan is a great eater! At the hospital he'd have a hard time staying awake during feedings - he'd take a few sips of milk then promptly fall asleep. They had him on a strict regimen since we is considered a "late preterm" baby - 10min on the breast, then supplement with formula as I pumped. Once my milk came in, we could drop the supplement. He always had a good latch though and breast feeding has gone so much smoother than I'd imagined it would be. I don't have much pain/discomfort, and Nolan now is fully awake for feedings and is growing like a weed! He was born weighing 6lbs even, then dropped down to 5lb 11oz at his first doctor's appointment (2 days after hospital discharge), then up to 5lbs 13oz at his second doctor's appointment (4 days after discharge), then finally back over his birthweight to 6lbs, 7.5oz at his 2 week appointment! It is such a relief to see him growing and gaining weight being exclusively breastfed - makes all the long nights of feeding worth it!

- Nolan is a talker! He makes such a wide variety of noises, which prove to be highly entertaining! He's got quite a range from pterodactyl-like squeaks to low grunts. It's not clear what they mean, but looks like he'll fall right into place of our family of talkers.
- Nolan is a night owl. Our pediatrician would like him to be eating every 3hrs during the day and allows up to 4hrs at night. Many times we are waking him up during the day for his feedings, but he wakes us up at night. He rarely goes past 2hrs without a meal at night. The pediatrician says that many times the baby will naturally switch back to more active during the day on his own, so we're hoping that will happen soon!

- We hired a professional photographer to capture our first week at home with Nolan. I chose Allie Beckley - a previous Emily C. Specchio scholarship recipient who has recently started her own business. We couldn't be happier with the results! Check out highlights of our session here.

- Nolan celebrated his first holiday: Easter! We didn't expect him to be around for Easter, so we didn't have any outfits ready for him. This wouldn't do, so Joe ran out and bought him an adorable first Easter outfit. We celebrated Easter just the three of us (with Deaner), but ate well as my thoughtful parents had dropped off a nice ham and side dishes when they came to visit. Best Easter ever!

Things to remember at this age:
Nolan has met so many people already! It's so fun to introduce him to our family and friends. At the hospital, my mom, aunt Peggy, aunt Mary Beth, and sister-in-law Jessica visited. Poor Jess didn't get to see Nolan while she was there since he was still in the NICU. After we got home, my mom and dad visited, as well as Joe's parents and brother Luis and sister Jessica, and my Penn State friend Faryn and her husband Lance. Everyone has come bearing gifts - everyone's kindness and generosity has been overwhelming! We've got lots more thank you's to write!

All in all, we absolutely love being parents and getting to know our beautiful little boy more and more every day. Yes, postpartum recovery has been hard as it's hard for me to "take it slow" and not push my activity too much. Yes, there's been some crazy hormone swings in the first few weeks. Lots and LOTS of sleepless nights. But one look at that little face and all that fades to the background. We are in love and in awe. We are so excited for what the future has in store for us and our new son.
