Father's Day Weekend 2014

We had a wonderful time last weekend celebrating Joe's 3rd Father's Day! We've been lucking out with the most beautiful weather every weekend this spring, and the trend continued this weekend. We spent the weekend soaking in lots of the beautiful weather outside, eating lots of fresh and yummy fruits/veggies from our CSA, and making lots of memories :)

Nolan's gift to his Daddy that he made in school. It's even laminated!
We kicked off father's day weekend on Saturday by spending an entire afternoon at the Haverford Reserve. The idea was to play soccer, but as soon as Nolan saw the swings, that's all he wanted! Then as we were headed back to the car, he wanted to play soccer ;) of course we couldn't refuse!

This boy and his swings!
Nolan did pretty much everything in the gigantic playground at the reserve - swings/all the slides/tunnels/stairs and his new favorite activity - turning on the water misters!

Nolan proud after he turned on the misters!

After Nolan got the playground out of his system, he was off to his other true love: the soccer fields!

My guys on Father's Day Weekend
On Father's day Sunday, I got up first to walk Dean, then picked up some coffee for the man of honor at Starbucks. Then I repeated the yummy tradition I started last year of making french toast skewers with Challah bread. They were made even better this year with the addition of fresh strawberries from our CSA basket! I also gave Joe his father's day gifts - cards from Nolan and I, a Dutch soccer shirt, and an hour golf lesson with a pro next weekend.

Father's Day Breakfast
After breakfast, we headed over to Ridley Creek State Park. It was another beautiful day, and we wanted to take advantage! We feel so lucky to have such a large state park so nearby our house! They have a long paved train within the park (the multiuse trail) that is about 4 miles long. We started off thinking we'd walk a bit then turn around, but everyone was enjoying the beautiful scenery and weather so much that we ended up walking the entire trail. Nolan and Dean were troopers and happy the entire time (Nolan was in the stroller)! Nolan was rewarded by some time on the swings in the picnic/parking area before heading back home. Dean was happy sitting in the shade :)

Higher, Daddy!

Love these two.
I continued the outdoor time when we got home by getting Nolan into his swim gear and setting up the baby pool/sprinkler in the back yard while Joe got to relax and watch some world cup soccer on his special day. Nolan is still warming up to the water (his favorite part about our sprinkler is that it shoots balls in the air, but he doesn't love getting sprayed and forget about getting him to sit in the pool!) but we still had a great time. Nolan is also getting more into drawing with our sidewalk chalk, so we spent some time drawing on the back patio. He is great at drawing circles now!

We capped off the day by using more of our CSA bounty in a delicious homemade pizza! The pizza had CSA spinach and goat cheese (along with non-CSA tomatoes and mozzarella) and a delicious pesto sauce made with Garlic Scapes from the CSA box. Yummy!

Homemade Pizza!
What a great weekend! Everyone slept well from all the time in the sun, and we had lots of fun family time. Joe and I must say dozens of times daily how fortunate we feel to have this special little guy in our lives. We also feel thankful to live in a beautiful area of the country with so much to offer so nearby. It was great to celebrate Joe for a day. He is such a wonderful father, and it is so apparent how much love he has for his son. It truly makes you love someone more when you can witness the love and affection they have for their child. We love you Joe!
