Emilia's First Birthday Party!

Wow, i've been having such a hard time finding enough time to blog lately! Work has been very demanding and I've been starting to get up early before work to workout, which means I try to go to bed earlier too (try!)

Anyway, Emilia is already 13 months old and I haven't finished blogging about her first birthday! Here's a post all about her first birthday party! Since we are still in our small rental, hosting it at home this year was out of the question. I struggled with finding a place that was fun for kids, indoors, and allowed unstructured play, but finally landed on Smith Memorial Playhouse in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. It was perfect!

I went with a loose, casual heart theme since her birthday is close to valentine's day and I figured it would be easy to find supplies in the store ;) Plus I always link the two closely due to my own birthday being so close to valentines!

The food was also kept simple - a hoagie tray from Primos, cheese/meat tray, fruit salad, chips, drinks, cookies, and of course cake!

The kid table melts my heart!

She knows how to help herself!

We had a little private party room that was attached to a larger play room. The kids loved running around and playing together! A favorite was the huge wooden train in the room.

Cake time!! We got the cake at McCaffrey's in Newtown along with a matching smash cake. The smash cake was adorable!

Happy Birthday, dear Emilia!

Make a wish!

Smash cake time!

She wasn't as bold as I had anticipated. I think she was tired/cranky. She's checking out what is all over hand!

A few little tastes

Definitely not sure!

What IS this?!

Not a happy camper

The aftermath.

Clean up from the smash cake was easy and the rest of the kids happily enjoyed their pieces of the big cake.

After cake, the kids ran around a bit more before it was time to head home! The party went by so fast!

It was a wonderful day. We are very lucky to be able to celebrate with friends and family in person for this big event. Of course, one key member of the family was missing, as she always is. But she definitely found a way to let me know she was there:

These photos don't do the sky justice - it was breathtakingly beautiful. My parents texted me to tell me to check out the sunset, but I was already out taking photos! She made sure we all saw. Best birthday present.

As for presents - we made out pretty well:

The girl loves tearing up wrapping paper!

Daddy, Nolan, and Deaner helped with the present opening!

The aftermath... total destruction.

All in all, a beautiful day! Our only regret is not getting any photos of both of us with Emilia, and really barely getting any photos of either of us at all at the birthday party. With Nolan, we did a 1 year professional photoshoot, but the plan this time is to wait for nicer weather and get whole family photos outside (best once Emmy is walking too).

Thanks to all who helped us celebrate our little lady turning ONE! Time flies when you're not sleeping having fun!
