After much delay, we decided we couldn't hold off anymore... it was time for Nolan's first hair cut (20 months old). Everyone kept telling us to hold off as long as we could. That his curls wouldn't grow back. But a new year calls for a new hairdo, and we couldn't deal with our mullet-ed baby much longer. After a recommendation from another parent at Nolan's school, we took him to "Kids Kuts" in Springfield.
Nolan was put at ease right away after they led us to the airplane seat and put on Elmo on the TV.

The hair stylist was very cautious in not cutting too much off. I actually told her a few times to go a little bit shorter. She mentioned parents are often very sensitive about the first cut ever being too short, so we were grateful for her conservative approach.

Nolan didn't love it, but the distractions of Elmo worked well and the woman worked super fast. The whole thing probably only lasted 5-10 minutes or so.

Kids Kuts gives out a "Certificate of Bravery" for first hair cuts along with a envelope with the cut hair. Very cute keepsake. I'm also happy to report that his curls are still around, and almost a month later, he's almost due for another cut!
