Life Lately: September & October iPhone Photos

Catching up with an "every day" post with pics from my phone from Sept/Oct - Nolan at 2 years 5/6 months! Photo heavy post ahead!
Nolan Lucas - 2.5 years old!
Right before leaving for Ireland, I went on a mad search to find some rain gear for Nolan since the forecast was rain every day. He loved his Fireman themed raincoat and boots from carters :)

Nolan's school had their annual fundraiser for Alex's Lemonade stand (their official adopted charity), and Nolan had so much fun this year as he's old enough to do more of the activities.

Family picnic on the school lawn. Eating a hot dog like a big boy!

Guess what color cupcake he picked? (Yellow is still his favorite color!)

Daddy and Nolan on our picnic blanket.
I broke the news that we were expecting #2 to his teachers that day. They were so excited for Nolan to be a big brother, and told us that he had been lifting up his shirt to say he had a baby in his belly so had an idea we were pregnant already ;)
All of the teachers! Even though Nolan has a few more years to go at the school, I feel like I know all of them (and they all know Nolan) - the school does a great job in creating connections with all the kids - whether they are in your class or not!
We were home in NJ for a few days before the Foundation dinner helping get together all those last minute details. I had to capture this moment of Nolan working on his computer with Nonna :)

He loves mimicking everything that we do!
I posted all about our Day out with Thomas, but had to include this look of wonderment photo I had on my phone:

This boy loves trains!
This boy's love affair of dress up hats continued this fall, with his all time favorite hat being his (new) yellow construction hat!

Happiness is a yellow hat!
Always wearing it!
Looking stylish with his fall flannel and bucket hat

Another hat selfie mom??
Some other activities in Sept/Oct were:

  • Attending the "Buddy Walk" for Downs Syndrome at Villanova University to support a high school friend of mine who adopted a child with Downs Syndrome from the Ukraine. Nolan loved all the fun games and activities there.

Playing tic tac toe with a wiffle ball.

  • Taking advantage of the beautiful fall weather by walking over to our local library a few times (Nolan loves it there - especially the train table with all the Thomas trains!)
Hanging out at the Marple Library

"I have this car toy at school!"

  • Spending some time in the driveway/sidewalk in front of our house playing with Nolan's tricycle. He still doesn't get how to pedal, but loved pushing it along with his feet, and of course wanted us to push him as well (great for the back!) :)

Getting some use out of his tricycle gift for his 2nd birthday in the neighborhood.

  • Attending Nolan's school annual "Fall Fest" in October, which we've attended every year. This year Nolan was SUPER excited to paint the pumpkins (he talked about it for weeks) and decorate cookies. Each classroom in the school had a different craft to work on with the parents. He really dove in and enjoyed it this year!
He takes painting pumpkins very seriously!
Running around outside.

More frosting, mommy!
The finished masterpiece!
Nolan the scarecrow!

  • Soaking up every bit of the remaining fall weather before the infamous winter hit (especially after remembering how crazy last winter was!) A few trips to our favorite playground in the Haverford Reserve was in order.

Swings are always a favorite.

How do i climb up here?!

  • Picture day was also this October. We went with a collared shirt under a zip up sweater look this time for Nolan :) I really love boy clothes - cute and simple! Definitely a bit more nervous about navigating the girl section in the upcoming years!
Heading out the door on School Picture Day!
He wants to press the code to get in school
Continuing his love affair with all things pumpkin!
On the way home. Mission accomplished. Another successful day of school photos (to be shared soon!) Love his curly hair and that we wears his own backpack in and out of school now.

  • And finally, wrapping up October was Halloween of course! A few behind the scenes moments:

Trying on Dean's Lion costume! The hilarious part is that the costume was barely noticeable on Dean - it blended right in with his furry hair!
Trying on his costume ahead of time. I realized I had to hem the pant length, and he would only wear it with his yellow hat, not the hat it came with! Luckily he changed his mind on the actual day, but I think it works this way too :)
Nolan and his "Halloween Branch Line" - He fills his radioflyer with all his favorite things (at the moment, all pumpkin -themed) and asks us to push him around the house riding on his Thomas!
Pre-trick or treating Thomas time!
Whew! Busy months, but lots of fun memories.

Some things to remember at this age:
  • Favorite toys: Dress up hats (yellow construction hat, fireman hat, birthday hat), EVERYTHING Thomas - especially his ride on train, little "Take n play" Thomas trains (he sleeps with Thomas and Percy), puzzles, coloring with his water pen, blocks, train track set with motorized fisher price train
  • Favorite TV/Movies: Nolan went through a big Curious George kick - he constantly wanted to watch the Curious George "Boofest" Halloween movie for awhile. He also still loves Thomas, but has gotten more into the movies - specifically "Blue Mountain Mystery", "Misty Island Rescue", and "Calling all Engines". He rarely asks for anything else, but will occasionally watch the "Rocket Themed" episodes of Super Why and Yo Gabba Gabba.
Watching TV. Dean watching his snack.

Curious George phase
  • Favorite Books: He consistently wanted to read the Thomas "Misty Island Rescue" book almost every night and can basically recite the entire book himself. He also loves the Cat in the Hat "There's no place like space" and has recently gotten into our books containing collections of Curious George stories.
  • Toddler Pronunciations/Sayings
    • "Resternaut" - Restaurant
    • "Wiper strollers" - Windshield wipers
    • Quiero Leche" - he says it well and consistently when asking for Milk. First big Spanish win!
    • "I'm Nolan" - corrects you if you try to give him a nickname (Nanu, Nolio, Nono) or even if you just call him silly, tired, cranky, etc. Adorable!
    • "Pasketti" - the classic toddler pronunciation of spaghetti
    • There aren't a ton of these because Nolan has gotten SO GOOD at speaking and relaying back any new words we say pretty flawlessly. We get comments often on how clear and understandable his speech is compared to other kids his age.
    • "Gamote" - Remote (control)
    • "Gamingo" - Flamingo
    • "Mira" - Mirror
  • Developments
    • Now drinks out of a cup and water bottle like a big boy! School doesn't even use sippy cups anymore.
Drinking out of a big boy cup with no spills!
    • Car seat switch. After Nolan turned 2.5, he was reaching the weight limit for the car seat to be rear-facing (we tried to keep him rear-facing as long as possible since it's much safer) so we finally made the switch to forward facing and he loves being able to see out "mommy's big window" in the front now!
    • Back seat driver. Nolan now knows "Green mean go, red means stop, and yellow means slow down" and isn't shy to let mommy know that the light turned green so we should be going!
    • Potty training. We kicked potty training up a notch these months. We got him to sit often on the potty, but the big successes didn't really start until November (spoiler alert for next recap)
    • Sleep has still been fantastic. We're a bit nervous about messing it up by moving him to a big boy bed/room as we prepare to transfer his nursery over to the baby. Update on that progress as it happens.
"Cheesin'" before bed.
Doggy snuggles before bed

Finally, here are some of the Tadpoles photos from our school updates sent home. Nolan is really flourishing at school and I'm amazed at how fast he is developing and learning every day!

Nolan really loves art time!

Story time with a guest visitor from the local library

Sitting in the Fire Truck that came to visit the school!!
Breaking it down on the tambourine for music time.

That's a small  peak into our daily lives this past fall! Although we've been busy, it was such a fun time to remember. I'm really trying to soak up these last days of being a family of 3 and appreciate our little guy as much as possible!
