Snow Days Recap

Taking a step away from Emilia updates, it's time for a winter weather recap! This year's winter wasn't nearly as harsh as last year (thankfully!) Although it got really REALLY cold this winter again, we only got a handful of snow storms. I went ahead and purchased a snow suit and boots for Nolan early in the season this year, which by January we weren't even sure if we were going to get any use of (no snow yet!) or if he would even like snow this year since he hated it last year.

Luckily, we did get some good use out of the snow attire, and Nolan liked the snow a whole lot more this year. His favorite thing was to build snowmen, which unfortunately with the 3 bigger snow storms we got this year, none of it was good packing snow - all just powder.

The first snow storm we got was in late January and was super OVER hyped - deemed the blizzard of 2015 and had everything pre-emptively shutting down (our work included). What was forecasted to be up to a foot of snow in our area ended up being a measely 2-3 inches (not even enough to cover the grass blades!) Still, I was super pregnant and happy to have the day off with my family so I wasn't complaining! Nolan had a great time in the first snow of the season.

A HAPPY Nolan in the snow this year - YAY!

Such a big boy

Barely fitting in his toddler sled from last year

All smiles!

Daddy pulling the sled and Dean chasing :)

Love Nolan's smile and Dean mid gallop!

Love these boys!

My snow dog! He loves it.

Sometimes the only way to get a photo with him is to strap him down ;)
The start of "Frosty #1" - there was barely enough snow to make him and it was super hard to get to stick together!

The best we could do. Our tiny frosty!
It seems like the birth of Emilia kick started winter and we got a few more storms in February/early March as well as some VERY cold days. Made hibernating inside for the first month easier to take.

Snow storm #2 came in mid February. Emmy was about two weeks old so she didn't participate this time (we just took the baby monitor outside while she napped). We got a bit more snow than the first snow and finally were able to make a more legitimate snow man (with a lot of effort again working with the poorly packing snow!)

Using his kids shovel we bought last year

The making of Frosty 2 (with a little help from Deaner)

And a lot of help from Mommy/Daddy
Finishing touches...
Frosty #2: The Finished product!

Time for more sledding

Daddy getting a work out. Next year we'll have to try a real hill!

Snow Day Success!

The third (and hopefully FINAL) snow storm was the biggest of all and in MARCH! We probably ended up with a good 8 inches or so - Nolan's school and my work were both closed (not that I was working anyway!)

Our deck covered and it was still coming down hard

Trees outside
Nolan was not happy in this snow because he could barely walk since it was over his knees and the snow was still coming down hard all day (getting in his eyes, etc).

Very unsure..
After a quick attempt to re-make frosty and realizing that yet again the snow was not good for packing, we skipped it and went right to sledding again :)

He has definitely outgrown the toddler sled. Next year we'll need a real one!

Tough going since hte snow was so deep! No grass poking through this time!
Dean LOVING it and pouncing/sprinting all around the backyard.

This was Baby Emmy's first time out in the snow! We had her super bundled up in her fleece "snowsuit" then zippered up under my maternity jacket. She slept through the whole thing!

Her face when I unzipped her from my coat inside <3
I'm so glad Nolan liked winter and playing in the snow more this year. Hopefully this trend continues and we can have fun taking him to the local sledding sites next winter to really live it up! We've finally gotten our first taste of spring weather this week (and the snow is almost all melted!) so we're ready  to say good bye to winter! Hopefully we won't get a late storm like last year's one on St. Patrick's day. I'm already bringing out the t-shirts/going shopping for shorts and bathing suits, and ready to spend more time outdoors with the kiddos! Hope you're hear to stay, Spring!
