Nolan is THREE years old!

Lots of posts on their way! On April 3rd, Nolan turned THREE (and Emmy turned 2 months old, which will be featured on another post!) Since Nolan's birthday this year fell on Good Friday, Joe had the day off, so the whole family was home together!

The morning started off with Joe and I (and Emmy) busting into Nolan's bedroom after he woke up throwing balloons inside and singing him happy birthday! We then came down to find his birthday presents waiting for him in the playroom :)

Deciding which to open first!
The presents were a mix of ones we got him and some my mom brought over from her friends in New Jersey. I kept them aside and let him open them all together on his birthday morning.

A new Melissa and Doug Puzzle set! He LOVES the one he got from his 2nd birthday (construction themed) and does all four puzzles in the box independently. His new one is a different transportation theme (trains, firetrucks, etc). A hit!

Nolan's big present from Mommy and Daddy - a new Bruder truck! This one is a recycling truck that lifts up recycling bins and moves the recycling through different compartments within the truck. He loves it along with his other Bruder Crane he got for Christmas.

The truck is almost as big as Emmy! ;)

Daddy, open it please!
Since we were all home that day, we wanted to do a fun activity together. We let Nolan decide which place to go out of all the options in the area (Please Touch, Zoo, Aquarium, etc). He picked the American Helicopter Museum in West Chester! We had only been there once before, but he has never stopped talking about it. Guess we'll be seeing more of it since we decided to spring for a membership this year since it would pay for itself if we only went one more time as a family! Nolan was in heaven yet again running from helicopter to helicopter and never wanting to leave. The nice people working there even gave him a free mini helicopter toy since it was his birthday :)

Holding his new helicopter toy and exploring one of the helicopters at the museum!
Loving it!

Inside the big medical transport helicopter. He liked being strapped in and pretending we were taking off!

In the tiny helicopter in the small kids play area of the museum

He doesn't get tired of this!

Making sure he got into all of them!
We picked up some pizza for dinner on the way home, and then it was time for birthday cake! Nolan had loved making the mini green cupcakes so much on St. Patrick's Day that he wanted those again for school, so I made those for him to bring in on Thursday. Then I asked him what he wanted for his birthday and he told me he wanted a "Green Cake" (not cupcakes). He's definitely going through a strong green phase right now! I thought it'd be fun to make one of those multicolor cakes together this year - they now make them boxed, so we did the "Camo" colored one together since it had multiple colors of green in it :) Nolan loved mixing the different bowls of colored batter and dropping spoonfuls of each into the pan to make "art". Here's the finished product!

Camo Cake!
Of course, it had to be topped with green icing, which they happen to sell now with funfetti sprinkles! Perfect!

Iced Cake
We made a big production out of lighting the candles and singing happy birthday to him with his birthday crown on. He LOVED it (and made us re-light the candles and do it again!) ;)
Say Cheese!

Waiting for his special cake

Here it comes!
Happy Birthday to NOLAN!

"Make a Wish!" Nolan: "What's a wish?" ;)

High Five! Nice job blowing out the candles

Take TWO!

Loving it!

So concentrated with his blowing!

Good job kid!

Posing with the rest of the family!

What a ham!

Taking his first bite!

He approves!

What a lucky kid! What an absolutely perfect day.
